Cash Assistance Program

How It Works:

United Needs & Abilities, Inc. offers a Cash Assistance Program for individuals and families who may find themselves in need of a service, equipment or medications that are not covered by insurance or another benefits program. UNA understands in order to enrich lives, sometimes it means thinking outside the box and assisting people in ways that may not be needed for everyone with that type of disability, but for this individual it has documented evidence that it is helpful.

UNA’s Cash Assistance Program is unique in that it brings the generosity of many sources together to meet need. Our funding comes from: donors, community business entities, organization, grants and UNA’s Charitable Donation allocation from their annual budget process in meeting needs. Our applications process is open for anyone who:

  • has a verifiable documented disability and
  • is in need of some type of assistance that
  • cannot be covered by another funding source such as personal funds, insurance or state agency but
  • is a resident in one of the nine counties of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

When all of these are true, you are eligible to apply, it is that simple!

UNA staff read every application and consult funding resources they are aware of that can assist our funding of the application. Our person-centered process contacts you or your representative to understand what your need is and how it can best be resolved through resources available.

Do funds need to be paid back?

Once funds are awarded to meet an specific needs and are used for that purpose, you will never be asked to pay those funds back. Funds are limited and awarded for a specific need or purpose but made possible by the generosity of people who wish to assist in this program, organizations who have funds available and contribute to the program, grants that UNA apply for and receive for this purpose, collaboration and partnerships with other programs of assistance, as well as, the committed funds from the United Needs and Abilities, Inc. annual budget earmarked for Cash Assistance; Not a Loan. All funds received by UNA for this program are used for application awards and none of the funding is used for any other of our United Needs and Abilities programs or any of its fixed operating costs.
